When we checked in the two people at the front desk whispered to each other as to what room we should be put in. We booked a last minute getaway and based on the photos we thought the standard king room was a bit pricy at over $550 for one night, but we did it anyway based on the Nice pictures and we were celebrating. The hotel does have coffee in the lobby.… You may need to get supplies from the front desk. This might be due to insufficient stocking, but the Hotel doesn’t offer housekeeping service unless you are there for three nights or longer. Although there is coffee in the room, like many places, there weren’t enough condiments nor was there an option for tea drinkers. Your parking options are on the street or valet. During the day, you’ll hear lots of traffic, but at night Santa Barbara gets very quiet. The Hotel is on the main street by the beach. I don’t have a dog, but those who do might feel more secure. My building was across Ambassador Park from the main desk, so I did have a minor concern about security, given that anyone can walk off the street and access the rooms.
Hotel milo windows#
The windows are single pane, but fitted with a mechanism to thwart someone climbing into your room. If you leave your curtains open, you’ll get to know everyone on your floor. The management likely bought the least expensive, highest decibel fans, but the walls themselves transmit sound form the next room. However the fan next door did, and was so loud that early one morning I thought the fan in my bathroom had suddenly started working. The bathroom fixtures were were budget quality and the fan in my bathroom did not work. The toilet and shower were in one room and the sink was outside that room, set into what used to be a clothes closet. My corner room showed signs of extensive remodeling. The hotel has a charming old-world look that is in line with its age. Its several buildings are adjacent to Ambassador Park, a popular place for dogs and their owners to enjoy the grass. Hotel Milo is dog-friendly hotel located across the street from the Santa Barbara harbor. Overall still a lovely place to stay- perfect for the beach, pier, harbour and town.… If they had offered self park for $20 a day we’d have paid it. Coming from the UK we are not big fans of valet parking and chose not to pay the $30 per day fee, choosing instead to pay $15 a day at the nearby harbour car park (5 min walk). the wooden floor was dirty upon entering the room for the first time) and they are quite tired for these prices (bathrooms need updating in particular) but overall the location, outdoor amenities and character won over leaving us very happy to have stayed there. We thought the rooms could have been cleaner (eg. Also, housekeeping was not offered to anyone staying less than 3 nights, although we asked for it twice during our six night stay and they happily obliged. It was packed every day so from the business perspective we can totally see why they’ve done that. Since we last came in 2018 we had the feeling that there is significant cost cutting taking place- they no longer offer wine tasting or breakfast as part of the price which is a real shame is that was a big benefit, but they now direct folks to the paid restaurant Chads which we assume is owned by the same people. Prices are high for what is essentially a motel style of property, but this reflects the amazing location. We are a family of four and both times we had a family room which comes with a separate room containing a bunk bed for the kids which they love. The style of Hotel Milo is very charming- the rooms are characterful and the grounds are great with plenty of nice places to sit for a drink or takeout. This was our second visit to this hotel we love Santa Barbara and the location of this place is hard to beat.
